History

It is said that the ovens that produced lime for the construction of the Cathedral were here in Castañeda. Pilgrims carried the raw materials here from Triacastela and swapped it for lime which they carried to Santiago.

The Road

It is uphill once more, followed by a steady descent into the valley below, steep at points.

We stopped here early and really enjoyed sipping drinks while watching the other pilgrims pass by on a sunny afternoon. The habitacion privado was basic but spacious, as was the bath. We were delighted to do a load of laundry in a machine. A great value that has what you need.

The No Pilgrim bar is not that great. Overpriced and food is marginal. Keep walking a little ways to next town. Beautiful spots there. May 2023

Camino de Sant…

This is a great place to stop for a coffee, play the guitar, spend the night or just have a pilgrim chat. All donativo and a unique experience. Most recommendable!
